Gene Name as identifier insufficient (imho)

Hello DepMap team,

first of all, thanks a lot for the great effort.

We are having a bit of a problem when mapping your lists with our data (proteomics). The reason is mainly that there is no good common ID as the gene/protein names can be different, e.g. NHP2L1, KIAA0020, C9ORF114 (would be our entries, we can find them in your search engine but not in the files).
So, any mapping I am doing is always incomplete due to that.

Our suggestion would be to use something common and unique in both worlds (while those gene names are probably unique in the gene expression world) e.g. uniprot IDs in addition?
Not sure if that is feasible. Or do you have another good fix to that problem?

Kind regards,
Jonas

Hello,

I believe we used uniprot IDs internally in the file that got imported into the portal. When you say “…we can find them in your search engine but not in the files” which files are you referring to?

Thanks,
Phil
