# CERES gene essentiality

How can you sort genes (via average CERES score) of cell lines according to CERES rating , so that I can create a list of the most essential genes.

I don’t think there is currently a way to do this in the portal. You would have to take the file from the downloads and compute this outside of the portal.
I’m interested to learn a little more about what you’re looking for though. Are you looking for the genes sorted by the global mean (across all lines)? Or are you asking the question on a per-cell line? (Which are the genes that are most essential in this line?)
If it’s per-cell line, it sounds like it’d make sense to include it on the cell line page. (We presently have a “relative essentiality” per cell line, but it sounds like you’d also like to know it independent of the mean in other lines. Is that the case?
